Californian misty morning

I wonder what sort of weather today will bring! I’m looking forward to weather that does not invite comment … maybe in Australia it will be just one sunny day after another.

Enjoyed the company of Pauline and another group of her friends at the movies last night. First a meal at a local restaurant –good Italian food and an owner who understood that we needed to be out of there in under an hour. Meeting  Pauline’s friends has given me an insight into aspects of the lives of women my age in the US. A major topic is health insurance: which company provides the best health care at the best price. The UK free at the point of delivery system rather blinds us to how much we contribute on a annual basis!  I have stressed that the NHS is most certainly not ‘free’.

After much debate about which movie, The Steal, and The Girl on the Train were contenders, we stayed local and saw The Ghost Writer. Orinda has an art deco cinema with a fine ceiling and pretty wall panels. It is sadly underused so the six of us doubled the audience for this Roman Polanski directed movie loosely based on the possibility that the wife of a recent British Prime Minister was  a CIA agent, a fact uncovered during the ghost-writing of her husband’s autobiography. There were some good lines and well filmed geography of the US East Coast.
