An afternoon off with Liz and Susanne –we took the Manly Ferry to Central Quay, headed for the Opera House and toured the Royal Botanic Gardens.
Every which way you look at the Opera House the dimensions are different, the structure aligns at a new angle with the skyline and light bounces along the fins in a surprising angle. The local advice was that we should finish with a glass of champagne on the terrace overlooking The Bridge –perish the thought that we would not do as we were told! Champagne at 4 pm provides a decadent glow, especially when its accompanied by a very large bowl of chips, courtesy of a little language difficulty. 
Back at the conference hotel in time to get posh for the conference dinner –tables decorated with shells and starfish, relaxed people, more champagne (of course) -and some of us lasted on the dance floor until the very end.
